How to remove animal hair from furniture

Tired of avoiding black clothes because of all the pet hair around the house? Getting ready for company to come over and need a clean couch? Pet owners are all too familiar with these issues and have undoubtedly tried countless removal products to no avail: Lint brushes are too small to be effective, vacuuming is time-consuming, rubber gloves dipped in water leave a wet couch, and duct-tape can damage fine furniture. There is one method of removing pet hair from furniture that works every time. Thankfully, it is also quick and easy.

Step 1: Purchase packaging tape. This tape is commonly used to tape packages or to tape boxes when moving. It is perfect for removing pet hair because it is larger than a lint roller and it is not as damaging as duct tape.

Step 2: Lay one strip of tape. The trick is to lay the packaging tape flat into strips instead of rolling it into a loop. The loop method is cumbersome and does not remove pet hair from a large area. Starting at the left side of the cushion, lay a strip of packaging tape vertically down the length of the cushion.

Step 3: Lay your second strip next to and on top of the first strip. You should be covering about inch of the first strip. Don't peel back yet, you have more strips to set down.

Step 4: Lay your third strip next to and on top of the second strip. Repeat this process until the cushion is covered.

Step 5: Now comes the fun part: press the tape firmly down onto the cushion: smack it, sit on it, smooth it out. Really press it down into the cushion to get as much hair as possible.

Step 6: Peel back the collection of sticky tape. Observe the vast amounts of pet hair no longer on your cushions. You can reuse this collection of tape on other cushions until the tape is no longer sticky. Repeat the process as often as necessary.

Most pet hair removal tips tell you to loop the tape around your hand or another object, but this is ineffective. The best method is to lay a collection of tape flat and press it firmly into the furniture. This covers a bigger area and uses the full effect of the stickiness of the tape.

We love our pets and with this hair removal tip, we never have to be afraid of wearing black and we can enjoy our company worry-free. With regular grooming of your pet, weekly packaging tape touch-ups are all that is needed to maintain a clean house free of pet hair.
