The Perfect Hypoallergenic Dogs for People with Pet Allergies or Asthma.
Just because you normally suffer from allergies due to pet dander, does not mean you have to miss out on having a wonderful four-legged best friend.
While each person is different and their allergy levels might vary, the shedding and dander produced by different dogs varies as well. There are actually quite a few breeds that will not affect people who normally suffer from allergies with pets.
The Poodle - Poodles normally "come" in three sizes; standard, miniature and toy. A poodle's coat is made out of hair as opposed to fur so they do not shed. Poodles are known for their intelligence and do extremely well in most dog sports.
Bichon Fris - The Bichon Frise is a virtually non-shedding dog. They are very cute, usually weigh between 7 and 12 pounds. They do well with children and quite often times are even good with cats. They are very playful and friendly.
Miniature Schnauzer The Miniature Schnauzer is another good dog for people with allergies. They are low shedding and usually weigh between 11 and 15 pounds. They make good guard dogs because they are good at vocalizing. They are usually excited and rambunctious however they might overpower smaller animals in the home.
Kerry Blue Terrier For the larger dog lover the Kerry Blue Terrier can usually weight between 30 and 40 pounds. They are called blue, but their color actually resembles a more grayish color. They do not shed, but they do have to have their fur trimmed fairly often, otherwise it will grow too long. They are swift, smart and do well in most dog sports. They are very loyal to their family members but need to be socialized very young to be around other animals.
American Hairless Terrier This dog has absolutely no body hair or dander, which means not only is it great dog for allergy sufferers but they are also easy to maintain because they do not need to be clipped or brushed constantly. The American Hairless Terrier is a well muscled dog. It has a deep chest, strong shoulders, solid neck and powerful legs. Its weight normally varies between 5 to 16 pounds. They are very lively and active, intelligent, alert, playful and loving. They train easily and are eager to please.
Shih Tzu While they are very cute and fluffy, and maintenance of their coat is a must, they shed very little to no hair so they are good dogs for allergy sufferers. Their coats need to be groomed daily however with a bristle brush. They normally weigh between 9 to 16 pounds. The dog would is a pretty good dog for apartment life. They are normally alert and spunky, courageous and clever. They make good watchdogs but it is important that you show the dog who is the boss in your house. This includes every person in the house, otherwise the dog could tend to get snappy as it will attempt to take over and become the pack leader.
Because every persons' allergies are different and each dog is different, it is very important that you spend a decent amount of one-on-one time with any dog you might be considering adopting. This would mean at least one half-hour in a closed room to ensure that there are no allergic reactions. But if you take some time and exert a little patience you can have a new best friend before you know it without any of those nasty allergic side effects.
