This is my top three favourite soap operas and the best characters from each.

1. Days of Our Lives "Like Sands Through The Hourglass So Are The Days Of Our Lives"

These are the classic lines that are associated with Days. Days first premiered in 1965 and is still going strong 42 years later. The residents of Salem lead lives that are never at a defecit of drama and excitment. The main families are the Demaras, Kiriskis', Bradys and Hortons. From love triangles to serial killers to paturnity questions to baby switches to deaths and amnesia Days has all the elements of the perfect soap opera. It has stood the test of time and continues to do so.

Sammy Brady (Ali Sweeney): Best female character. DOOL would not be the same without Sammy. She has been through so much and still comes back with that strong fiery attitude that Sammy is famous for. You never know what Sammy will do next she is also the soaps fertility queen.

Bo & Hope (Peter Reckell & Kristian Alfonso): Best original couple. They are classic the classic reacurring love story of DOOL. They have their problems but constantly fight through and do not know the meaning of giving up.

Chelsea & Max (Rachel Melvin & Darin Brooks): Best young couple. They are the case of friends becoming lovers. Chelsea and Max could be the next power couple. There will be some rocky times in their future but they are the next Sean and Belle and have the lasting power.

Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson): Best body and bad boy. As the heir of the Kiriakis thrown Philip has his fathers cunning buisness sense but Stephanie Johnson brings out the old Philip with the heart that we know and love. Their relationship has left more shirtless opportunities and I am not complaning.

Melanie Layton (Molly Burnett): Best new vixen. From the time she entered the screen Melanie has been trouble. She thinks that she has the wit to play both the Demaras and Kiriaskis' but she's not quite at Nicole's deviant level yet. Although Melanie comes off as annoying and mischevious, she does have a heart that's being revealed.

2. As The World Turns

ATWT is set in the town of Oakdale. This April it celebrates its 53rd year. The show centres arond the Hughes, Montgomery, Snyder, Stewart, Donovan and Walsh families. These families cross over in different places and share rival dramas. ATWT has addressed a breadth of issues that soap operas commonly address with many plot lines. In addition it has recieved a GLAAD award for its contribution to the
