Student life at Johnson & Wales University

Ahh, Senior Year! I am about to be there and have had a fun and interesting ride at Johnson and Wales. I currently attend the Charlotte campus, but a lot of things about the school are similar at all four campuses- Denver, Providence, Miami, and Charlotte. Here in North Carolina, we have a relatively small campus. This is our fifth year being opened, and our entire campus can be found in just three small blocks. We have two on-campus living facilities, and we have two buildings with classrooms. In addition we have other offices for staff, and a rather impressive library. For anyone who knows anything about Johnson and Wales, it is not just a Culinary School. We have two colleges outside of Culinary, which are Business and Hospitality. There are plenty of things to do on campus and for active students it is difficult to become bored. There are constantly activities going on, whether it be tie-dying, glass etching, or some sort of big prize bingo, there is always something to do. We are moving in the right direction and there are many clubs on campus for students to get involved in.

-Collegiate Ambassador Team (CAT): does all the tours on campus for incoming students and prominent people in the community.

-Ice Chippers: Ice carving club for students to really make some neat projects.

-Student Government Association (SGA): Governing organization that allows senators to be the voice of the student body and get some needed changes on campus.

-Baking and Pastry Club: Extra time for baking and pastry majors to indulge in making sweet treats.

-Campus Activities Board (CAB): Plans all the fun activities and arranges for guests to come to campus.

-Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX): Collegiate version of DECA (a marketing club).

-Random Acts of Kindness: Always doing charity work on campus and cheering people up!

-Eta Sigma Delta (ESD): Hospitality Honors Society.

-Student Alumni Association: Keeps in contact with all the graduates and is a wealth of knowledge for seniors and those looking to network.

The list could continue forever! That is just a sampling of our clubs and organizations here on campus. We also feature multiple club sports including hockey, basketball, and cheer-leading. Beginning next year basketball will become our first official varsity sport. The school is very excited that we have now reached that status. Our teams have already begun travelling. Johnson and Wales University is a great school that is just getting on it's feet. There are so many things that can still be done that students can be a part of. With new traditions being started and new clubs forming, the possibilities are endless.
