TV show reviews: The Biggest Loser

This review is about Season 7, through Episode 16 and some of Episode 17, the US version produced by NBC.

Episode 17 has been shown on prime time TV, so these are not really spoilers unless you missed the broadcast. Felipe and Sione have returned to their homes, families, and to the respect of their Tongan national heritage, to whom, they aspire to be role models. This gives me chills to realize that these two men can possibly change the lives of over one hundred thousand Tongan people, from a standard of obesity to the amazing level of fitness and endurance that Felipe and Sione have accomplished. I seriously believe that crying by humans serves a much ignored process. These men and their loved ones freely cry and openly share the deepest affection.

The human brain actually disperses chemical depressants in tears. If you have ever experienced the spontaneous flow of tears, with or without an emotional response, when the tears seem to be burning your eyes, you have experienced this process. The chemicals that the brain and body produce every day number about 60,000, with 20,000 of those being fairly stable reactive agents in the chemistry. The 60,000 is derived by precursors and followers to these stable reactive agents within the active chemical processes. Each of these reactions can give rise to a random thought, which may explain why Zen Buddhists learn to quiet their thoughts to gain inner peace.

I was inspired by every contestant this season, and by their trainers. I loved the yoga exercises that Bob used to train the mind as well as the body. This season has the trainers pitted against each other. If I understand it correctly, every winner of The Biggest Loser main program has been trained by Jillian! This season Jillian trained Tara, and Bob trained Mike. This is about as close as it could be to a toss up between Tara and Mike to win the $250,000. I am not sure if Jillian trained all the home winners, this season's prize $100,000. However, that group could also prove to be impossible to predict a winner before the final weigh-in. One pound could be the difference.

Last years winner of the $100,000 actually won by only one pound! I believe Vicki lost the $100,000 by one pound last year. This year maybe both contests could be won or lost by a few ounces. The most unbelievable change to me this year is Ron. His weight and his health seemed impossible to change so drastically within such a short time. Especially with his profound surgery and many medicated conditions. I really admire the quality of medical care that the contestants received this year. Laura in particular may have been saved from a more serious disability if her stress fracture had not been discovered. The decision to keep Laura from walking was excellent.

This show has been an inspiration to millions of people, including myself. I am grateful to all the people who participate in it.
