Is the U.S. government responding appropriately to the swine flu outbreak? What actions do the citizens of this country feel is the appropriate response? Right now, the government is aware of the situation at hand, not just nationally but also globally. The virus may have been in this country for a lot longer than we think, but the outbreaks have just started. National and international officials, President Obama as well as the government do not feel we are at a global emergency-yet. From the information reported on the Internet as of today, our government is not only responding appropriately for the moment but they are also taking appropriate action for the future.




There are articles alerting people of the symptoms you should be looking out for as well as precautions they should take to prevent becoming infected. Shipped in from reserves are medicines and other medical supplies to help heal those who contract the swine flu while the President is requesting additional funds from the government to help with the costs of controlling this deadly strain of flu. People entering into the U.S. have custom officials checking them for symptoms. While travel has not prohibited, meaning airports, bus terminals and train stations are not shutting down; officials are advising everyone globally to avoid travel. In Mexico, the government is shutting just about everything down. Russia, Hong Kong and Taiwan officials have announced they will quarantine visitors who show symptoms of the virus. Many airports, travel agencies and individuals are cancelling trips to or even through Mexico.




President Obama has announced that schools with infected students should shut down but the question is this: Is it necessary to start quarantining people with the virus? Maybe it is necessary to shut down schools or businesses that have a number of infected individuals but is it necessary to shut down everything? Should everyone walk around with masks and gloves on? Should we all just stay in the house until this whole thing calms down? To do all that would be anticipatory of assuming a pandemic. We might as well just watch mass hysteria ensue by announcing we have such a crisis on our hands.




Currently, articles are reporting that the strain of infection in the U.S. is weak. This does not mean it could not become stronger but who knows what direction this going in? If we are taking steps now to control and prevent future outbreaks then the fear of this virus progressing out of control may not be
