When chanting mantras a favorite of Liberals is 'universal health care'. Problem is its a mythical beast like the Unicorn and an honest politician. No nation has universal health care. They do have universal access to health care but not the care itself. In England take a gander at the waiting list for anything beyond check-ups. This is done at an ENORMOUS cost to the taxpayers.
The mother of the 8 babies is a perfect example of the sort of universal health care we have. Take a guess at how much she has paid versus what you the taxpayer has paid. She has money enough for a neat tattoo while we are paying for pre-natal, delivery, and pediatric care. She like many others will simply use immediate and emergency care as the family doctor which compounds the enormous amount already spent by our fiscally irresponsible government to provide care to less fortunate folks.
As cold as it sounds its only fair that if you have the money you receive better care than those without. If I don't have the money then I can always waltz into an emergency room or intermediate care facility and get treated. Rest assured those who have spent generations receiving welfare know the ins and outs of getting care and not paying much (if at all) for it. Take a look at those nations which liberals point to as examples of a system of universal health care. Next take a look at the amount in taxes the wealthy and middle classes pay for it. The wealthy in the United States are smart and wealthy enough that much of their income is sheltered or off-shore which means a much greater burden on the middle-class.
In addition look at the level of service received versus taxes dollars spent in these model nations. It is easy to visit the government health care sites that list the procedures and policies in place to provide a citizen with 'universal' health care. The more sick you are (especially with something exotic) the longer you must wait to get seen, treated, and referred to the next link in the care chain.
Likewise think about how a universal system stifles research and development. Why go into medicine or research if there is not money in it? Yes, I know lots of people work for more than a paycheck. I teach because its my passion but, my pasion does not pay a mortgage, keep the lights on, and my kids fed. I would much rather teach in a small rural district. I accept a job in a large suburban school system because I get my passion and can pay my bills. Same thing applies for medical professions. The talent will follow the money which means doctors, nurses, and others will leave public practice for a private situation. So, a liberal solution is to mandate pro-bono work by private professionals. Ask someone who has had to use a public defender working for little or for free how that worked out?
Finally, realize we have a system in place that provides quality care to a majority of citizens without an astronomical tax bill. Do unfortunate people fall through the cracks? Yes. Do they get treated better or faster under a universal system? No. The cold hard reality is since the dawn of time some get theirs others don't. Creating a mythical beast that will make it 'fair' or even 'equitable' is pure fantasy thought up by the same people who brought you political correctness (speech and manner fascism) and other failures of types who like to spend your tax dollars to salve their own conscience.
