Bringing your first child into the world is one of the most gratifying, yet intimidating, experience a mother or father will ever go through. There are so many questions you will have. One of the most important of these questions is what you will need to comfortably welcome the newborn home. Naturally, the advice of someone who has lived this experience is the most helpful. As a brand new mother, I know the anxieties that accompany shopping for your new baby to be, and I am here to help sort out the necessary items from the unnecessary ones.

Every mother to be knows that diapers, food, and clothing are the base needs of any infant. Unfortunately, the extensive amount of these items that are needed is many times underestimated until the child is born. Just make sure to stick to the basics in the beggining. Once you bring your newborn bundle home you can decide which extras will fit your lifestyle the best.

Changing Time

There are so many choices out there when it comes to diapers. Considering the consequences of faulty ones, this is one item you should consider splurging on. If you choose to go for the store brand cheap diapers, you will probably end up spending the money you saved on new outfits and cleaning supplies after numerous poopy blowouts. The more expensive, name brand diapers are usually contoured to fit snugly around a little body, unlike the more common box shaped, cheap diapers. Because the cost and quantity of diapers you need may be overwhelming if you try and stock up in one or two trips, the best thing to do is start buying them now. Purchasing one package every time you go to the grocery store will help lighten the load in your mind. Investing in a changing table may be an added conveniece, but, if you are on a tight budget, disposable changing pads laid out on a safe secure surface like a bed or even the floor will work just fine. Wipes, diaper rash ointment, and baby powder are a few other things you will need to keep your baby fresh and free of rashes. During the first few weeks, you will also need alcohol and q-tips nearby in order to clean the remains of the umbilical cord. Cleaning it every time you change a diaper will prevent infection and help the cord dry out and fall off faster. When it comes to throwing diapers away, you might want to purchase a diaper genie. This is a trashcan made specifically to trap any foul smells. Its convenient features will have you giving it a pat of gratitude every day.
