Movie reviews: Veer Zaara

by Raj Kumar

Usually I don't miss any movie of Shahrukh Khan. You might know Shahrukh Khan. He is one of the best actors in Bollywood (Hindi films). You can assume him as next superstar after Amitabh Bachchan who is the greatest superstar of the all the time. So we were talking about Shahrukh Khan and his movies. As soon as his new release comes at the box office, somehow I manage to see it. But I don't know what changed my mind with the release of Bollywood movie Veer-Zaara. I watched its trailer and advertisement. I heard some words from friends also that it is very boring and unbearable. It's too lengthy about more than 3 hours. I was not impressed with the preview of Veer-Zaara and hence decided to avoid it. I thought why to waste money on it. Better to watch when it will come on TV.

Recently I watched Veer-Zaara on TV and I was taken aback. It proved my perceptions totally wrong and the movie turned out to be real winner. Veer-Zaara is excellent. Though the movie seems to be lengthy but once you start watching it, you get involved in it. Gradually you start mixing with its story and start to think that why Veer (Shahrukh Khan) is in Pakistan prison. He is innocent, honest, brave and lovable. He seems to have done nothing wrong then why he has been punished and put behind bars for so many years. You find yourself standing in favor of Veer. You want to know the secret behind his deep silence. You become so eager that you want to explore his private life story.

Actually the story has been bundled with cross-border emotions between India and Pakistan. The story could have been very simple if it was not merged with relationship between two rival countries. If the protagonist is related to Indian security forces like Indian Army, Navy or Air-Force then the issue becomes little sensitive. To make the story more spicy, emotional and tense, it has included the protagonist's girlfriend i.e. Zaara (Preeti Zinta) from another country (Pakistan). To create love relationship, an adventurous but beautiful scene has been added for Veer and Zaara. To create the relationship having three corners, negative character (fiance of Zaara), Manoj Bajpai, another Bollywood actor has been introduced. He has ill-feeling for Veer.

Director Yash Chopra has done a great job. He is successful in pulling the attention of the large audience. The interesting plot of Veer Zaara binds the audience till the last scene. Shahrukh Khan has really played the character of Veer in an extraordinary manner. He has beautifully transformed each word and expression into Veer's role which is clearly visible. Along with Veer, the role of Zaara has also been played very nicely by Preeti Zinta. She is a wonderful Bollywood actress. With every new movie, she has been evolved into new improved Preeti Zinta. Shahrukh Khan and Preeti Zinta's chemistry is stunning.

Another power packed and fantastic performance has been delivered by one of the best Bollywood talented actress none other than Rani Mukharjee. Sometime her acting overrides even big stars. Her co-ordination and emotional dialogues with Shahrukh Khan and Preeti Zinta are exceptional. Actually you can't compare both the actress in Veer-Zaara as their role is distinct and unique. Others supporting characters like Manoj Bajpai, Boman Irani, Kiran Kher have also done very good job. Legend actor Amitabh Bachchan and evergreen beauty Hema Malini are terrific in such small role also. They look fresh and their chemistry is like old wine. More they are growing; their talent and skills are teaching new lessons to younger actors.

Music of Veer-Zaara is melodious and entertaining. Singer like Udit Narayan is good in songs like "Aisa Desh Hai Mera". I think you should not go with rumors. If you have still not watched Veer-Zaara then you should definitely watch it at least once. You will realize its fragrance and beauty. It's not waste. I think you will enjoy and love Veera-Zaara.
