When people hear that someone else plays the game World of Warcraft, they instantly think of some fat nerd who lives in their parents basement. Well, they definitely think about someone who wastes their time and people who don't live in the real world and are constantly thinking about the game. Well, I play this game and I see the fun and the part of the game that makes a lot of people get lost in it. I like this game and I play it for harmless fun but I have seen people who play this game for there way of life. I have seen the "dark" side of this game but this isn't the only game that has a side that make people become addicted. The whole problem is that this game in particular seems to have more people that become completely immersed in it and they show it to everyone so it has become the main game that is considered to be bad for addicts to lose themselves in.
This game is only a scapegoat to the real problem. I have seen the same thing that happens with this game happen with games like Call of Duty on-line and Diablo. The real problem is the type of people that are playing the game. No, I don't mean nerds or fat guys that have no life and live in their parents basements. I mean that the people playing are people that, if the game didn't exist, would be on drugs or addicted to another game or something to take them away from the problems of real life. The reason why this game is the one attacked is because you hear about it the most, because the game is nerdy and far-fetched from the way things really are and isn't cool. There are no guns, no explosions, no hot chicks and no car chases so it takes a certain type of person to play and like the game.
Like I said, the reason it is an issue is because the type of people that play need an escape from real life. This game is too good at providing a way to spend a lot of your time. Anyone who has played would know that if you want to do anything, I mean anything, it takes a long time to do it. You have to run everywhere and the world is HUGE so you have to run forever and then you have to kill a ton of monsters and then run right back to where you came from. So, as you can imagine, it takes a long long time to accomplish anything. The people that take it too far, love that they have to spend a long time at it so they have an excuse to spend forever on it.
It really comes back to the people; if they weren't playing this game they would be playing another game or out doing drugs or committing crimes. The problem is that the people that you hear about are people who have addictive personalities.
