LOVE, NOW
what do I love about you
without explanation
you left our marriage
for fifteen months
thousands of divorce lawyer dollars later
you called relentlessly
coming around again
I complied, complicit
what do I love about you now
in the spring of your second year back
in your brown eyes I see black, lonely circles
who is in your mirror staring back
what do I love about you
your lack of insight, an abundance of anger
drama required to slam dooors
on days of disassociation
desperation
what do I love about you
thick silence in the car as we drive
a CD from the sixties plays, the heat is on
where are we going when I am at the wheel
what do I love about you
secrets spilling onto me
the kind that will not wash or dry out
instead they disappear, scared
what do I love about you
as you lick imaginary wounds
your new view of our marriage
impossible to assimilate
what do I love about you
eleven years of blessed memories
delight in the absence of fear
an abundance of laughter
what do I love about you
clocks that suddenly stopped
fourteen years after 'I DO'
the sense it will return
an avalanche of desire
declarations that love
does not die
after a leave of absence
what do I love about you
the finish line
a place where I am speechless
fresh out of feelings
love abides, resides
inside hearts of longing
lives that try
to remain whole

Where is Love in this world today?
It is not in the eyes of the enemy
who hates us because we do not worship as he does.
It
A little girl asks her daddy for a treat at the store,
He smacks her face and heads for the door,
Angry, red welts spread
