Logos are so small in design and appearance and yet serve a very important purpose in any business. This is why creating a unique logo is so important - it's what represents a company's image and could dictate the tone of marketing and branding you need to do for your company. Just imagine the expectations pinned on this little branding tool in creating the much needed impact and impression to establish the right kind of identity that will enable your target audiences to recognize your company's mark anywhere. To get you started, here are just five simple tips for creating professional, unique logos for any company.
1. Design for the Company Image: A good designer will do his or her homework and find out the values of the company and its customers. You don't want to make the mistake of creating an edgy logo only to find out that the majority of a company's clients are conservative in nature.
2. Don't use Clip Art: The sign of an unprofessional logo is the use of clip art in the design. Even worse, clip art is not a custom design, and therefore, not a unique design. There is nothing wrong with browsing through clip art for ideas, but let it be just that...an idea. Creating a custom image will ensure that yours is one-of-a-kind.
3. Incorporate the Company Colors: Since reinforcing the brand of the company is the main purpose of a logo, use the company colors in the design. This will make sure that the logo both fits with the company image and stands out from competitors.
4. Use the Company Font Styles: If the company hasn't already purchased their own font designs, then designing the logo is the perfect time to do this. Just make sure that the font used for the logo is readable at any size the logo will be used.
5. Don't Forget about Logo Design Rules: Simplicity, memorability, and versatility are the three most important design rules for logos. Keeping these in mind will ensure that your unique design is also very usable. A simple logo design is easily understood, which is why most people are drawn to them. A memorable logo will stick with viewers long after their encounter with it. Finally, a versatile logo will work in black and white, on posters and business cards, online and in print.
When designing a logo, take the time to refresh yourself on what it takes to create a powerful logo. These 5 tips above are a good starting place for designing a logo that distinctly identifies your client's company image. At the same time, should you feel like it would make more of an impact on the brand if colors change or fonts change as compared to the existing ones used by the company, then voice out your thoughts and I'm sure if your points make sense, corporate will listen. After all, if it makes them more money, why not?
