The best romantic restaurants in Richmond, VA

While the term romantic may mean different things to different people, Richmond does have some great restaurants that offer a great dining atmosphere for romantic meals. All of the following locales were tested and approved by individuals with different interests. They also have great reviews by food critics and newspapers alike.

The Phoenician Restaurant
4401 West Broad Street

Richmond, VA 23230
(804) 359-5590

Please do not let the immediate surroundings or city location deter you from enjoying this wonderful place. Do stop before you enter and admire the lovely hand painted mural on the stucco facade of this authentic Lebanese restaurant.

As soon as you enter, you will be taken away by the wonderful inside decor. Rich burgundy, deep gold tones, luxurious velvet and silken fabrics alike combine with tasteful lighting to make for an immediate romantic atmosphere.

Sure, it is an ethnic restaurant with unique cuisine, but there are no distracting smells or outlandish food creations. There are enough varieties on the menu (starters, salads, sandwiches and items from the grill) to appeal to any taste buds. No romantic dinner would be complete without wine, and the Phoenician does have a very appealing wine list. The service boasts Middle Eastern hospitality at its best. No reservations are needed, but keep in mind that this place is closed on Sundays.

Shackleford's Restaurant
10496 Ridgefield Parkway
Richmond, VA 23233
(804) 741-9900
www.shacklefords.com

Located in the far West End, this restaurant's name does not exactly conjure up a romantic image, and neither does the fact that it is part of a shopping center. However, the waterfront views and scenic vistas make a perfect backdrop for their excellent seafood specialties. If you are not into seafood, fear not, the menu is extensive and features all the crowd pleasers Americans love. The food is very well presented and wonderfully prepared.

There is a kids menu, so if you have kids yet are looking for a romantic place for brunch or dinner this is the place to go. While family friendly, this is a traditional place and there won't be any screaming children distracting you. The service is excellent and unobtrusive.

There is one other exceptional feature that makes Shacklefords a romantic restaurant: They offer al fresco dining. While this concept has never caught on much in the USA, at Shackleford's it seems natural and many patrons will take advantage of it so you won't feel weird. However, the outside dining area is large enough where you can maintain your privacy. Reservations are recommended for this restaurant.
