How to stick with an exercise program

Knowing how to stick with an exercise program can be challenging. Everyone requires a certain amount of daily exercise. Unfortunately not many people take the time to incorporate daily exercise into their routine. Lack of time, money and motivation are a few of the excuses that you may be using to get out of exercising. It is time to stop making excuses and do something daily to improve your health.

Choose an enjoyable exercise.

Choose an exercise that you find enjoyable. You don't need to spend exorbitant amounts of money on a gym membership to get adequate daily exercise. You also don't have to spend money on expensive exercise equipment. Anything that gets you outside and moving is better than nothing. Walking, riding a bike, working in the garden, cleaning the house, or playing with the kids in the backyard are only few of the things you can do daily.

Warm up.

Be sure to warm up before beginning to exercise. Do some gentle stretches and yoga poses such as sun salutations (stretch arms high above, then bend at the waist and hang). Spending several minutes warming up before exercise reduces the chance of injury and gets your blood flowing in preparation for harder work.

Choose a time.

Schedule a time for exercise. It is very important to create a routine for your exercise. Although we all lead busy lives in today's society, if you make a plan to exercise daily or several times a week, it will be easier to fit exercise into your schedule.

Exercise with a friend.

Some people find that they are more motivated to exercise when they are in the company of a friend. If this is true for you, choose an exercise buddy who will help to motivate you and keep you going during times when you don't feel like exercisig. Not only will you be improving your health, but you will also be spending time getting to know someone better.

Exercise when you are tired, sick or depressed.

Although it may seem counterintuitive to exercise when you are most tired, feeling unwell, or just feeling down, in fact those are the times that exercise can do the most for you. Exercise will help you sleep better during times when insomnia hits, will give you energy when you feel your feet dragging, will build up your immunity against colds and flu, and will lift your mood when you are feeling down. Just be sure to go gentle during times when your body truly is not at its peak.

Combine exercises.

Combine different types of exercises. Just like everything else, exercising will become boring if it's monotonous. Change your routine once in a while. Change the type of exercise, the time or even the place. To change things up, try out for a team sport. If you are prepared to dedicate some time, tennis, basketball, and volleyball are all great sports to become involved in.

In summary, there isn't any reason why you can't start moving today to get in better health. If there aren't enough good reasons already presented, know that proper daily or regular exercise will help to manage stress in your life. Who couldn't live without less stress?
