The Perricone Weight Loss Diet is a low carbohydrate diet that consists primarily of fish. This 14 day plan requires you to take more than 25 supplements, including fish oil capsules. Besides losing weight, this diet also promises anti-aging benefits and may control insulin levels. Many celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, swear by the Perricone Weight Loss Diet.
Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a dermatologist, originally created this plan to combat aging. The basis of this diet is his theory that inflammation causes obesity. All of the foods on the diet are designed to promote anti-aging. These 10 "Super foods" include fish, antioxidant teas, fruits and dark, green, leafy vegetables. You are not allowed any red meat, dairy or alcohol on this diet plan.

The omega-3 fatty acids consumed on this plan help to reduce inflammation and promote heart health.
Vegetarians can substitute flax oil for the fish.
It may help prevent acne.
Antioxidants may boost your immune system.
Cons
The large amounts of fat and protein on this meal plan can lead to high cholesterol levels.
All foods eaten on this diet must be organic and unprocessed. Some foods may be costly and hard to find.
This is a very low carbohydrate diet so you may experience a loss of energy.
The large amounts of fish eaten can cause you to have a fishy odor.

This is a very rigid diet and can be hard to follow for some people.
The amount of fish that must be eaten may be a turn off to some dieters.

This diet is very time consuming and you will spend quite a bit of time preparing your meals and taking supplements, as well as exercising.
This diet is not right for everyone. Pregnant women, especially, should avoid it because of the high levels of mercury. While the Perricone Diet may not be harmful to your health, if losing weight is your only goal, you can probably find a cheaper diet to use. If you want to lose weight and slow aging, the Perricone diet may be right for you. Before starting any diet, you should check with your doctor.
