Life as a Buddhist

Once Buddha was approached by a lady pleading to revive her dead son and to that Buddha asked the lady to bring a handful of grains from a household where nobody died. The old lady in her search came to realize that there are not a single household in which a person died and came to understand that death is unavoidable to the mortals. So Buddhism is a religion which will show you the way to gain this immortality.

Buddhism is a religion that basically deals with your attachment towards these worldly materials and helps you to avoid it and attain eternity. Perhaps having an idea about Buddha could make this religion much clear to pursue. Being a Buddhist, I should say that it is rather easy to hear preaching than implementing it yourself. However it helps you to become a better person by detaching you from the affinity to this materialistic world.

Once being born as a mortal being, it is obvious that we are no better than a beast and may be worse than them. It would be due to the development in technology and living in a complex society, ruling the world. We have an ego due to which we try to achieve and get everything that could meet with our desire. It is this desire in us that makes us unable to achieve immortality. The desire to attain luxury after being provided with basic necessity is the seed sown for any chaos in this world.

Humans however take the death of their own kind as a catastrophe without thinking that we are also the part of the animal world. If we start thinking about that in a clear thought, than why do we slay beasts for our own benefit? Buddhism teaches us to respect the entire soul contained environment and believes in before life and after life. With that I would like to elaborate stating that after the death of every mortal the soul enters the body of any random creatures according to our karma or virtue. Therefore it can be believed that may be the fish you are consuming may possess the soul of your father.

Therefore as you go to the higher level Buddhism asks you to leave your attachment to everything and even your family. Buddha also started his search for enlightenment by leaving his wife, son and even his kingdom. It was evident that even Buddha had to go through various hardship in this search and that teaches us that even we can attain the same provided we need to have the virtue and if we try to practice what Buddhism teaches. If we follow the means to enlightenment with a clean heart, the stairs always go upwards.
