The best martial art is Wing Chun, or Ving Tsun as traditionlists would have it. It is based on the theory of the short distance between two points is a straight line.

A very scaled down example would be if someone was to throw a hook if you were to throw a straight punch it would land before the hook. Again this is very simplified example.

Wing Chun was originally created back in the day because it took between 10 and 20 years to master a martial art form. Something was needed that could be effective in a short period of time. You can learn the basics of Wing Chun within a year. This is to say that you can defend yourself against a basic attacker within a year.

Other martial arts, while effective, require you to memorize so many moves that it gets to complicated. Wing Chun deals with all attacks in the most effeciant way possible and with the least amount of energy. No double back flip spin kicks or extranious moves some other systems use. These kinds of moves are rendored useless against Wing Chun.

Wing Chun also trains an exercise called chi sao (basically means sticky hands). It trains your subconsciense to act automatically to an attack (on autopilot as we say) No, "well let me think, he's doing this move, and I think my form move number 234 applies here". No, Wing Chun lets your body react for you while your thinking, "where the hell did this guy come from?".

Trust me, while other systems my be effect in there own right, say time and study Wing Chun. I have met many masters of other systems, that after coming along to Wing Chun convert.

In what ever system you study, best of luck to you.
