As the multitude congregated on a day that many anticipate with anxiety and trepidation, a day when the clock is your enemy, a very clear message was being communicated, faint but determined, through the bustle of check writing and the sweating brows of accountants, the message communicated all around the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /
>United States, "We Will Rise Up!" The demonstrations that took place were no simple, peaceful reenactment of the famed Boston Tea Party; in fact it would be a gross understatement doing very little justice to the movement itself if remembered as such. These demonstrations were more so a plea to everyone of us in this country to reawaken the dormant passion for free thinking and dignity, the idea that we can protest the blatant disregard and underestimation of the American peoples intelligence, the idea that we are not going to be taken advantage of any more. By gathering together under one fundamental motivation where each individual's personalities and opinions are entirely irrelevant, the group mind becomes connected in such a powerful way that it can't help but to inspire change. Throughout history there have been countless movements resulting in the most unfathomable of positive outcomes when communities of minds and motivations interlock to dedicate themselves to a collective goal. This is by no means drone like or threatens one of losing their identity, it is simply a pattern in the human species, like in many others, that when working in an organized unit much more gets accomplished for the individual and the whole symbiotically. The demonstrations on April 15, 2009 chipped away at the levy that fervently leashes our vigor and will to fight for the respect due to us as equal citizens of this country. It reminds us that we have the power and the government is on borrowed time, the people control the welfare of the country, but the people have forgotten this. It is time to remember, it is imperative to continue to rally and to express opinion, unrest and satisfaction. The notion that we live in a free country because of the government is absurd and hollow without the free thinking people of which the government should be made. It is up to us to continue pursuing change through protest and demonstration; it is one of the crucial dynamics that ignite revolution which instills concrete changes in politics and government legislation needed to better the quality of life for every American.
