I am currently being homeschooled for my four years of high school. However, I was in public school for my grammar school years. As I look back, there are countless benefits to being homeschooled
(1)In homeschool, I am privileged to work at my own pace. This has proved effective when it I reached my worst subject Mathematics. Since I am not the best in Math, I was able to slow down and take extra time to learn these math skills. Now I have a good grade average in Mathematics and I understand it better. This however, would not have been possible, had I been in public school when studying these advanced forms of Math, I may not have passed that class.
You can also speed up on any subjects that you are better acquainted with or ones you naturally excel in. In this way, you are afforded the opportunity to get ahead in your classes and even finish the school year before public school students.
(2)For the eight years spent in public schools, a majority of the time was spent disciplining the students. Sometimes, it would take an entire hour for the teacher to get one student to sit quietly and pay attention. This became very frustrating to both me and my mother. As a result of this waste of school time, my grades began to suffer. Now with homeschool, I can have peace and quiet as I study for tests and etc.
(3)In most homeschooling programs, your child is supplied with an e-mail address, phone number, and web site for their Educational Counselors. This feature was of great help to me and still is. Now I reap the benefits of having one counselor to answer all of my school related questions. Due to this "one-on-one" program, m grades have steadily improved and I have maintained a ninety-four percent (94%) grade average for six months and counting!
(4)As a six-teen year old boy, one of the notable benefits of being homeschooled is the flexibility you have. For example, last week the temperature was eighty degrees Fahrenheit! (That's pretty good for Chicago weather.) There was no way I could of let that beautiful weather pass without getting outside. So naturally, I made arrangements for some recreation, put the books down, and enjoyed a nice day with several other friends that are homeschooled. However, upon returning home, I finished the work I started earlier that day and then went to bed. Think also of what I could do if it was a rainy day. Instead of recreating, I would try to complete todays and a portion of tomorrow's school work. In this way I am able to have the best of both worlds.
In essence, I believe that I'm blessed to be homeschooled. Other students can work, study, and perform better in public schools. But that just wasn't for me. Here, I am afforded the opportunity to accelerate my learning experience and I have developed better comprehension skills. Anyway you look at it, homeschooling is better than public schools.
