If you are looking for a playful ball of energy , let me introduce you to the Doberman pinscher. Dobermans have many good traits and some controversial ones as well . Did you know that they are one of the most intelligent breed of dogs?
They have a bad reputation that is unfair considering their roles in the military and police service. Dobermans were originally bred to be protective and tough. Through selective breeding these traits have been tamed down, but like most dogs they are protective of their owners. Dobermans are sometimes mistakenly stereotyped as an aggressive breed. Any dog can turn out to be vicious if that is the way they are raised. No dog breed in itself is "bad". Most Dobermans are actually very sweet and gentle animals.
The history of the Doberman is a good story on its own . In Germany, Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, had a risky job of collecting taxes. He also ran a local dog pound. With access to many types of dogs he went about breeding until he found his perfect combination. A dog that is loyal, smart, and strong.
The exact mix of dog breeds that were used to make up the Doberman are uncertain. Some of the dogs that are believed to be a part of this wonderful breed include the Pinscher, Rottweiler, Manchester Terrier, Great Dane, and the Old German Sheep dog - that is now extinct. Which dogs are the exact makeup remain a mystery.
Dobermans are fun loving dogs that require exercise daily . Energy and passion are alive in this breed and they need room to run around often . This is not the type of dog that will just sleep all day , they love to play.
Dobermans are easy to groom with their short haired coats. No need to worry about excess shedding like some breeds. The average life expectancy for the Doberman is around 13 years. Also they do much better in warm climates than cold. Have you ever heard of Siegriend & Roy? It is believed that the same gene which produces the albino (white) Doberman also produced the famous white tigers and lions! Amazing!
Dobermans are a class of their own. Once you let one of these spontaneous dogs into your life, you will never be the same. If you have the time and space for these delightful dogs , than get one! Don't let anyone discourage you from trying this loyal breed. He or she will become your new best friend. Everyone needs a Doberman Pinscher in their life at least once!
