Since ancient times, women have attempted to fight the inevitable signs of aging by concealing their gray hair. Today more than ever, women (as well as some men) consider getting regular dye jobs to be an inescapable part of everyday life and a necessary expense. However, there are several reasons not to dye your hair in an attempt to fight the war against gray.
There are very few shades of color as visually stunning as silver, and those who have been blessed with silvery hair should think twice about coloring it. While some shades of gray can look dingy and dull, a small percentage of the population has gray hair that is simply breathtaking. In fact, this type of hair is so stunning that it is virtually impossible to achieve with artificial dye. Colorists can mix and match virtually hundreds of different shades of haircolor, but a true silver-gray is one color that is impossible to achieve with dye. The same thing applies to white hair. As long as it looks clean, shiny, and healthy, white is a beautiful color.
Gray hair is also a testament to one's experience, as it makes a person look distinguished and wise. In some careers, having a youthful appearance is a plus, but if you are a judge, attorney, doctor, or businessperson, there is no bolder statement of your experience than proudly displaying gray hair.
Another reason to avoid coloring your gray hair is the upkeep and maintenance involved. As your hair grows, it will be necessary to re-color the roots every six weeks or so. If you are a busy person, it is not always easy to make this type of commitment. There is nothing less appealing than a woman with a few inches of gray roots. It looks sloppy, tasteless, and not at all attractive.
As a nation, we find ourselves in less than perfect economic times, and as a result it may be necessary o save money any way possible. Women who regulary schedule haircolor appointments at a salon for color touch-ups can often spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars each year in salon costs. If you are on a budget or are watching your spending, simply refusing to color your hair may be a great way to save money.
Choosing to embrace your gray hair can not only be a money-saving decision, but it is also a statement that says you are confident in your appearance and unafraid of the ageing process. You've spent a lifetime earning each of your gray hairs, so why not make a bold statement and enjoy it?
