The very term football hooliganism is misleading,as it suggests that the natural and enjoyable recreation of football is somehow responsible for the behaviour of hooligans. It simply isn't.
Hooligans are to be found in all walks of life and the right way to deal with them should be proper law enforcement and stiff penalties. Their behaviour should not be blamed on the ultimate sporting activity to have evolved in the course of the history of this planet. The pitiful misfits who hate football would just love it if football could somehow be blamed for the idiotic behaviour of other pitiful misfits.
On the subject of football hating pitiful misfits, some such unfortunates at a school in Rugby,England dreamed up a ridiculous mess which they had the nerve to try to call Rugby football. After the laughter had subsided they called their garbage rugby. This, though, was the start of a trend.Since then all forms of rugby have been misrepresented as football, including what has passed for football in North America. If any form of rugby is to have the word football in its title,it could be called Football Hooliganism.
If any other activity had the drawing power of football, hooligans would be right there looking for a platform for their antics. For example, what has passed for football in North America would attract hooligans if they could stay awake long enough. As it is,North American hooligans have to content themselves with things like drive by shootings and other criminal behaviour. How would Americans like it if the phrase 'American gangsters' came into common use? That would be an insult to decent Americans, but it is really no different from talking about football hooligans.
The vast majority of spectators at a football match are decent people who can enjoy the game.Hooligans and other freaks simply can't.They can only try to spice up their miserable existence by dragging decent people down to their own level. This means starting fights and trying to blame other people for them(apart from their other endearing qualities, hooligans are liars).
The fact that hooligans are liars explains a lot, since liars have always tried to drag football down to the level of their hooligan garbage. As the great(American)folk music artist Bob Dylan once wrote 'Cares not to come up any higher, but sooner get you down in the hole that he's in'.
Honest Americans have shown that they have no problem realising that most people in their country were once the victims of a hoax by football hating liars.Young people in particular are obviously immensely relieved to be enjoying football and not to have to put up with the violent hooligan garbage which was falsely called football and designed by and for hooligans.
