If Mexico has a drug problem one can be sure America shares it. Mexico has always only supplied the amout the United States demands of illegal drugs. Mexico is a poor country, most cannot afford to get addicted to illegal drugs. Those who are addicted in Mexico are because they are the individuals making sure Americans get the supply they demand, and they have direct contact with the drugs. When cocaine was making a pitstop in Mexico between the U.S. and South America, cocaine addiction did not become rampant in Mexico because it belonged to South America until the United States bought it. But, todays drug that is causing all the havoc in Mexico originates where ever its manufactured and that drug is methamphetimine.
Methamphetimine or at least the recipe that has ruined so many Americans lives, was exported to Mexico unlike the other illegal drugs we can hold Mexico responsible for bringing into our neighborhoods, like black tar heroin and cocaine. Those drugs however come from other countries which paid Mexicans to distribute to the bordering U.S. Mexicans didn't experience an addiction problem to these drugs because they wanted the money more than the high. Mexico is a desparate country with only two classes the rich and the very poor. Which is why the Mexican government has relaxed drug laws making it easier to get drugs from Mexico and to Mexico than the United States, supplying the U.S. its illegal drugs is one of the best commodities that Mexico has.
Meth has been an American drug problem since at least the early 90's. Legend has it, the Hell's Angels came up with the recipe after it became impossible to get prescription amphetimines. After mom's diet pills became impossible for her to get, the meth cook became the new source for speed. This lasted more than a decade. At first, meth was everywhere. Police were filling Californias prisons to the brim with users. Cooks who got busted could get up to life in prison, especially if they had prior records or enhancement charges.
When the problem inched its way through mountains and across the prairies and into states like Kansas, the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency passed new laws like the Combat Meth Act in 2006, which made buying the ingredients to make it too risky for even the most brazen manufacturers. Retailers that sold psuedoephidrine were trained how to spot the signs of dealers or meth lab cooks by the products they were buying. Eventually, stores were required to ask for identification for anyone buying
