When you are travel north of Boston and are looking for great seafood, a stop in Newburyport is a must. You won't have to look very far to find the freshest and most delicious seafood on the North Shore.
When you think of seafood and you think of New England the first thing that comes to mind is lobster. When you are in Newburyport and you are thinking lobster, Bob Lobster is the place to go.
You don't go to Bob for the atmosphere, it is a nondescript building, you go for the freshest seafood in the area. Bob is a lobster fisherman so he cuts out the middleman and also the delay in getting the seafood to his customers. Not only is this a restaurant, it is a seafood market. To enjoy the flavor of Newburyport at home, pick-up one of their bake at home lobster or seafood pies.
You have your choice of eating in the cramped inside or outside at a picnic table. Get in line to place your order. You will want to start with the chunky clam chowder or steamers with drawn butter. Sink your teeth into a lobster roll with just the right amount of celery and mayonnaise in a split roll for the real flavor of New England on the run.
If you prefer your lobsters whole, you can have a 1 1/4 pound beauty either single or double, steamed or fried. If you are really hungry, a clam bake with a pound steamed lobster, steamed clams and a bowl of chowder will fit the bill. There are also heaping platters of fried seafood, oysters, smelts, haddock or shrimp along with French fries and coleslaw.
When it comes to fresh, it doesn't get any better than Bob Lobster.
Michael's Harborside Restaurant
Located on the historic wharf at Newburyport, Michel's is a constantly evolving restaurant that has just recently undergone extensive new renovations. This is a great place year round. In the warm months, the view of the harbor and the marina are glorious and in the colder months you can snuggle up by the fireplace. No matter what time of year you eat here, you will find the finest in seafood offerings in a comfortably upscale atmosphere.
Their menu is eclectic enough to satisfy even the most discriminating diner. Whether you are in the mood for Louisiana lump crab cakes, PEI steamed mussels with white wine and butter , sesame seared sushi tuna or pumpkin crusted scallops Michael's has just what you are looking for.
The entrees run the gamut from a haddock po boy sandwich, lobster or fried clam roll and a 10oz burger on the lighter side to the haddock dinner, baked or stuffed lobster, seafood scampi or the traditional fried seafood diners, oyster, calamari, clam, shrimp, fish and chips or a combination. You can choose French fries or onion rings and coleslaw as your sides.
Carnivores won't feel left out with beef tips, meatloaf and short ribs just to mention a few. With wonderful views of the Merrimac River it is no surprise that Michaels has been voted the best place for outdoor dining on the northshore.
If you are planning a trip to Newburyport no matter the season, you will enjoy a great meal and great views at Michaels Harborside Restaurant.
