Video game reviews: Mortal Kombat, Deadly Alliance (Xbox)

"Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance" is the fifth installment of Midway's "Mortal Kombat" series. The game was released back in 2003 for the Sony Playstation 2, Nintendo Gamecube, and the Microsoft Xbox. I bought a used copy of the game for my Xbox. I was planning to buy a copy for the Playstation 2. However, I found a used one for cheap on the Xbox. I decided to go with the Xbox version instead because it was far cheaper. So far, I was not disappointed with buying this copy.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
corrects the mistakes that were present in "Mortal Kombat 4." Still, there were plenty of things that needed improvement. But, MK: DA was a good start.

STORYLINE: A+

So far, the storyline keeps to the continuity of the "Mortal Kombat" series in which the forces of Outworld are trying to take over the realm of Earth. However, it detracts from the typical redundancy of Mortal Kombat's main storyline. So far, it is revealed that rival dark sorcerers Shang Tsung and Quan Chi put their differences aside. The two of them form up the Deadly Alliance. They are the main antagonists of the entire game.

They manage to take out Shao Kahn in the process. Afterwards, Shang Tsung impersonates Kung Lao at the Wu Shi Academy. Shang and Liu Kang get into a fight. Quan Chi sneaks up from behind. Because of this, Shang gets the advantage and ends up killing Liu Kang.

Raiden gathers several people together to thwart the Deadly Alliance.

CHARACTERS: A+

Old characters return and new ones are introduced. Returning characters are: Kung Lao, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Cyrax, Sonya Blade, Jax, Kitana, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi return.

New characters are: Kenshi, Nitara, Bo'Rai Cho, Li Mei, Blaze, Mokap, Frost, Mavado, Hsu-Hao, Drahmin, and Moloch.

Kenshi is the first blind swordsman to be introduced into the Mortal Kombat series. He is a person looking to get revenge on Shang Tsung.

Nitara is the first vampire character who is looking to free her realm from Outworld.

Bo'Rai Cho is an overweight master that taught Liu Kang in the past. Now, he teaches Kung Lao.

Li Mei is a student trying to liberate her people.

Blaze is a fire elemental.

Mokap is a motion-capture guy that worked on many of Cage's films.

Frost is a student of Sub-Zero, who is the new master of the Lin Kuei.

Mavado is the leader of the Red Dragon, a group that rivals Kano and his Black Dragon syndicate.

Hsu-Hao is an officer under Mavado.

Drahmin and Moloch are recruits under Quan Chi. Moloch serves as one of the final
