Mirror, Mirror On the Wall...Tell Me Who'll Get the Oscar Out of Them All...
Let's face it. Movies are both a national and international favorite pastime. And almost everyone the world over has a very strong opinion about what his or her favorite movies are. But also remember that what constitutes a group of the best movies ever usually involves a set or sets of standards and can be quantified in every way from how many billions they bring home from the box office to how frequently watched and widely circulated they are to just how character driven, visually and auditorily stimulating they are. So, while I will list my top 10 picks for the best movies ever, I will also leapfrog this article later to include some extensive research into what the American and International Public consider the top 10 best movies ever and why. For now, here is the list of my top 10 personal favorites:
1. Barefoot in the Park (1968?-Starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda)-Why? This movie is simply hysterical! Based upon the very simple yet believable premise of two ( 2) over-their-heads newlyweds struggling to rent and to make ends meet in an upscaale New York City neighborhood, Redford and Fonda do not stop delighting us with such witty antics as zanilly eccentric neighbors, a broken skylight bringing in the bad weather and constant sparring over whether it will be the coffee table or the couch in that oh-so-coveted and yet oh-so-cramped corner.
2. The Shining (1977, 1980-Starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd as Danny) Windy, Here's Johnny! And we (the movie viewing public) are right there with him watching this spectacularly shot spine tingler with Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrence, a hard-headed and hard-up-for-work man who drags he and his innocent family into one eerie incident after another at the Overlook Hotel until they and the family's sanity become hard to "overlook." Shelley Duvall is Nicholson's masterful sidekick as mother to Danny and martyr and madwoman to Jack and Danny Lloyd's debut dazzles with detail on how chilling kinetic power and despondence yields disaster.
3. Red, White and Blue ?-Starring Julliette Binoche) This raunchy French trio of films is relatable even to American audiences. Binoche is not only beautiful, but bold even when confounded by depression over her potentially disloyal mate and her dog that's been crashed into. Just as Barefoot, this simple trio is enigmatic and engaging.
4. Meet Joe Black(1989-92)-Starring Anthony Hopkins and
