Imagine yourself living in a world where everything is the way you wish it were. The act of writing opens doors that reality never will because reality is limited to the things we can see and feel. The limitless possibilities of writing cause it to do wonders as a form of cheap therapy.
While traditional therapy is often associated with an hourly dollar amount that comes directly out of our pocket the only cost writing has associated with it are the tools we need to accomplish it and the exercising of our own mind. When we are forced to think we find things within ourselves that we never knew existed. We have the ability to live our dreams through writing.
It is this ability to live our dreams through the process of writing that allows us to alter the past and to create the future we desire. The ability to change the past allows even our darkest moment to be turned into a learning experience. We can take those aspects of our life that hurt us the most and turn them into positive experiences; when we write about the situation the ending it actually had doesn't have to be the ending that remains.
Those experiences in our life that hurt us the most can be put to paper and we can come to grips with them. Only by coming to grips with our past can we achieve our future. We are not wallowing in the past when we write about the past instead we are allowing ourselves feel and examine the emotions that went along with the event. Our emotions must not be allowed to suppress themselves instead they must be expressed in order to prevent an emotional breakdown.
There are those that have trouble verbally expressing themselves and writing is the only outlet they have for their emotions. Using writing as a form of therapy allows you to define your emotions and give yourself a place where they can be expressed freely without fear of judgment. Keeping a private journal gives you somewhere to write down not only the events of your day but how those events make you feel. Even if your writing is never intended for the public eye the simple act of writing is therapeutic in it self.
Writing is a cheap form of therapy requiring nothing more than a little time and something to write with. Getting your emotions down on paper can help you work through them and come out better for them. There is nothing to compare with being able to freely express yourself without fear of judgment and with the ability to learn to from your experiences. The next time you find yourself in need of a therapeutic relief remember a cheap alternative to traditional therapy is writing.
