Earth Day activities for children

People all over the world are now becoming aware of the truth about Mother Earth. People are becoming knowledgeable about the problems of the earth unlike yesterday when many people still believed that the changes that are taking place on earth is caused by nature and not by people. Some people up to now do not believe that man is leading the earth to its destruction. But I am happy that more and more people are learning to do something to save Mother Earth. Saving Mother Earth cannot be accomplished overnight nor could it be attained with only a few people cooperating. Everyone is needed in order to save the earth. Even children are being educated about the worsening condition of the world we are living in. In order to let children be more aware of the situation, they are becoming part of the yearly celebration of Earth Day. There are many activities where children could participate in:

Crafts and Arts

Children could be taught the importance of using organic materials in order to lessen the harmful chemicals that is adding to the pollution of the earth. We could teach them to make crafts out of these organic materials and to make paintings and drawings using organic materials also.
There are many organic materials that people could use today and they are available in many markets..

Clean-up drive

Children could be taught to clean the streets or parks. They could help sweep the dried leaves or pick up the scattered thrash. While children are cleaning, it is important that they will understand the meaning of what they are doing in relation to the condition of the earth. They should be taught to discard thrash properly and they could also be taught that leaves from trees could be made into organic fertilizers.

Collecting non-biodegradable materials

If you walk around, there are plenty of scattered non-biodegradable materials. With the emergence of bottled drinks, plastic bottles are everywhere. People drink bottled water, juice and all kinds of bottled beverages and discard the bottles anywhere. With the help of your children and the neighborhood children, you can collect these bottles and other plastic materials that are lying on the ground. It is important that the children are taught that these materials are non-biodegradable and they must be recycled or reused and even reduced.

Planting trees, flowers or any green.

Children could help by planting trees in designated areas. This is an activity that the children will enjoy given the right tools and instructions to do so. You can ask the children why you are planting trees and they could answer. If they give the wrong answer which I'm sure they won't, explain to them how helpful trees are to the environment.

Program related to pollution

If you are creative enough, you could plan a short program where children could dance using biodegradable customs of plant and animal designs. Or you can teach them a poem about how to save the earth. You can also tell them a story about how pollution has affected the life on earth and many more activities related to the earth.

There are more activities for children on Earth Day. What is important is that they will be educated about what is happening to Mother Earth and how we can save it. It is also important for them to know how useful their participation is to the solution of the problem regarding the earth we live in.
