How involved in Mexico's drug problems should the US become?

How involved in Mexico's drug problems should the U.S. become? Are people truly this blind to what's going on in the world? Mexico's "drug problem" is America's drug problem, plain and simple. We should be just as involved in this as Mexico is. Finally, someone starts standing up to the smugglers and cartels and what do we give them? Unmanned Aerial Surveillance vehicles and a few million dollars in aid. This is a war being fought on our back porch. We spent billions and billions of dollars half a world away and can't do better than a few measley dollars and some remote controlled airplanes for our closest neighboring country?

This is the war we should be fighting. What do you think is going on here? Where do the drugs in Mexico go? They're not fighting over the need for drug cartels to distribute their products to Mexican citizens. These drugs are meant for U.S. soil. We've been preaching this "War on Drugs" since the '80s and I haven't seen a whole lot done to actually stop it. No, we can't stop it all, and users will use, but don't you think we should be doing something more than we've been doing to stop these substances from coming in to our country? This is the opportunity to finally put a much tighter lid on the garbage allowed in to our borders. The cartels profiting from the illegal distribution of controlled substances are using their money and influence to commit incredibly heinous acts against people all over the world. If anyone could see what they do to the people who are forced to help them make the drugs, they would probably be quicker to lend a helping hand to stop it. All you really have to do is look out your back door to see the effect these drugs have.

These are not victimless crimes. This is not something that can be fixed by the legalization of drugs. The illegal distribution and use of drugs on our streets is, perhaps, the center chord in the rope that is violent crime. Our children are becoming addicted at younger and younger ages and crime rates are continuing to increase in most cities. Drugs affect American citizens of all classes; poor, rich, young, old, it doesn't matter.

If you think what's going on in Mexico right now does not affect the United States, you are fooling yourself. There's a reason weapons are being smuggled in to Mexico from within the U.S. There's a reason American citizens are targeted in many of these attacks. There is a reason that, oh yes, these violent criminals are invading our borders to commit crimes, including abductions within our own cities.

How involved should we become? We are involved, every one of us, and unless we stand up right now and assist our Southern neighbor, the consequences will be dire. Unless American citizens stand up against the tyranny that has become the drug industry, this nation will not continue to exist as it does today. People are dying because of these things every day, in Mexico, in Columbia, in Ecuador, Panama, and make no mistake, in the United States of America, even as you read this. This will not stop, it will not go away, and the Mexican government can not control the situation by themselves. A collapse of the Mexican regime will further increase the risk to the security of our southern border and leave us vulnerable to attack, even as this country eats itself from the inside out.
