Poetry: The unknown

by Katherine Miller

Created on: April 25, 2009   Last Updated: October 26, 2010

The ice it cracked beneath my feet
A lifeless shell of Earth's defeat
But beneath that shell was a spring surprise
An unknown force lay silent and wise

As fall approaches and leaves fall upon the ground
They blanket precious needs for spring's new dawn
To give them warmth and depth profound
To sleep until the sun abounds

A Bear gathers enough food for its entire slumber
To ensure it survives a lengthy winter encumbered
For in the spring a surprise awaits
Berries and sprigs of bountiful haste

Many animals need the gathering of seeds
The spring will deliver a bountiful spread
That will fulfill to all and supply their needs
And with it deliver a summer of deeds

For when old man winter shies finally away
The ice will crack and water its display
For emerge by the thousands will be flowers and sprigs
Of every color and choice from small to big

Animals and Humans alike will rejoice
As the first days of spring is a spectacle to behold
A beautiful display that is a part of nature's voice
To be carried with us forever to be retold.
