Why computer games are not a waste of time

Video games have always been a part of my life, from an early age they have been my sanctuary, my alone time.

Its only recently i realized just how much time i have spent in front of the TV, controlling the on screen virtual objects, to complete whatever insane task the developers of the game compiled for me. Many people would consider this to be mindless and un-entertaining, but i disagree, years of non-stop video game action have tuned my lightning quick reflexes, and greatly increased my arguing skills, i used to be the victim of bullies, but now anyone who challenges my intellect will always find themselves in the awkward position where they have nothing to argue back with.

Asides from the hours of fun and brain stimulation that video games offer, they also offer a social network of millions of players world wide, there's always someone who shares your common interests, someone to have nice chat with.

In recent years computer games have also been earning quite a few people a respectable amount of income, There now exists a system where teams from all over the world can compete for real cash prizes, some even being sponsored or landing contracts for hundreds of thousands of dollars, that is in no way a waste of time in my opinion.

It may seem as if all computer games do is offer an escape from reality for people who have nothing better to do, but unless you have experienced the intense thrill of blasting your enemies away in a multitude of unimaginable settings and environments, you cannot truly grasp the concept .. There is a feeling of elation and achievement when all your objectives have been completed, a rush of adrenaline in the moments before defeating the boss, and thats just single player campaigns.

Modern multilayer games, are in my view, no way a waste of time. This genera offers the most fun and intense game play, where you compete against other, real, thinking, reacting players, all for the common goal of your team, the adventure, and in most cases hilarity that ensues throughout the experience compares to any blockbuster movie or exiting novel.

If computer games had never existed, many modern technologies would not be available today, think of all the consumer electronics interfaces and menu systems, that would have not been developed. NASA would have no way to test their new space shuttles without building them, and the military would have far less accurate equipment.

If computer games were a waste of time, they would have stopped being produced in the eighties.
