Poetry: A shoulder to cry on

by Victor Dissimilis

Girl of Troy

Should you feel your mind is broken & you can't think straight no more
When you try to speak your words are strewn across the floor
When you choke with regrets & dwell on what might once have been
I know what it's like, won't you come & talk to me

When your reflection just shows you your hopelessness
When all the love you felt's replaced with bitterness
When life's only promise is of death to set you free
I know what it's like, won't you come & talk to me

When you play the game of life & realise you've lost
When you count your blessings & you see what they have cost
When you're down on your luck but just don't know how this could be
I know what it's like, won't you come & talk to me

When you cannot see for looking as you seek the idol's face
When you realise it's an illusion that you chase
Then when you're left alone with no-one to agree
I know what it's like, won't you come & talk to me

When you're in trouble & no-one comes to see you through
When you wish that you'd not said goodbye to friends that you once knew
When all the ships that your face launched are all at sea
I know what it's like, won't you come & talk to me
