Legal information: What should I do when the police call me?

Hang Up the phone. If it becomes an issue one can say that they dropped the phone and no information has been passed, one should try to contact an attorney.

Odd when I wrote here the first time, the article that Helium deleted, I thought that "when the police call" meant that was like when a man "called" on a woman for a date. Guess that is an old meaning of the word "call".

Interesting concept for example how can one be sure that there is a cop on the other phone ?
What type of information is one giving this "alleged" cop ?
Even if it is a cop, what is their intent ?
Are there any witnesses to this conversation ?
Are they recording you ? Do you have witnesses, a recording ?

What is the motivation for a cop to be calling someone, the only beneficial motive is to inform people of an emergency. They could be trolling for information on someone. What if one responds that they know the "person of interest", one becomes a known associate. How about if one has been consuming substances and they pick up the phone and talk in a manner identifying that they are under the influence, reasonable suspicion could allow the police to enter the residence - are the substances legal ? How about picking up the phone while ones children are fighting or yelling at you, a house in chaos at that moment and one has a phone call from a cop - explain why one child is yelling that they are going to kill another.

For perspective when my girlfriend was having problems with her medication treating a severe anxiety disorder the Manassas police assaulted me in a CVS pharmacy, a store with video and witnesses to the event. I was shopping when the officer approached me demanding my ID, my questioning the reason for the request upset him, up until that time I believed that I had "Rights", his response was to frame and assault me.

Despite my requests for the store video it was dismissed by our attorneys and the authorities. In court when I stated that the police report was inaccurate my attorney responded that the "police lie all the time on their reports". Our experience identifies collusion to avoid addressing the facts of a case. At least in Virginia there is a tendency in the law enforcement industry to come to the easy conclusion, they see someone upset so the upset individual must be guilty. If one makes a mistake on the phone in a conversation with the police they may presume you guilty of something or a person of interest. Will their next act be to break down your door and shoot your dogs, like Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo their report will say that you were under suspicion based on a package delivery or a phone conversation.

So when the police call your home and it is not to discuss an emergency, treat them as hostile, there is a motive and what may be a solution for them may NOT be a solution for you. One might spend decades of legal expenses and emotional turmoil trying to rectify the mistakes of this population, is it worth the risk ? Of course one might then get a visit but then one may have witnesses and control of the environment. One must use their own judgment just do not accept that if one is called by the police it would be in your best interests. If one has money to blow on hiring a bevy of attorneys one may not have to worry - Rights are for the rich...

Hang up the phone when the police call - they are not your friend....
