Where writers find inspiration

Austin's "Pride And Prejudice", read the first line and think, "Wow, did people really talk like that once?" But after you get passed that, you think about that first sentence. It's amazing, isn't it? There's a story there.

Your daughter comes to you , eyes all aglow. She's in love, she states dreamily. Do you recall when you told your mother that exact same thing? Remember that feeling? There's a story there.

You hear your one son casually telling his brother that he's going to hang out with his best friend's girlfriend while his best friend is at college. The other son asks if he really thinks that's a good idea. Boy, is there a story there!

You hear a catchy Toby Keith song on the radio. It's a too-often-told story about love and loss and three days later it's still stuck in your head. Yes, there's a story there.

If you have any sort of imagination you can find inspiration from one word or a twenty year old movie, a silly fight with your wife or the joke your stupid boss told you at a meeting. Jot down those thoughts and ideas and see where they take you. There's a story there. And if you don't believe it, just look at the collection of stories this writer has posted at Helium. Every instance stated here was already turned into a story. And yes, there's a story there, too.
