I'm a 24 year old female, and I have just found out about 6 months ago that I have Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disorder. It all started about 4 years ago when I started having headaches, odd sharp pains, colds that would not go away. I didn't want to get out of bed anymore! I went to the doctor time and time. After a while I just thought to my self "Im crazy" no one could give me any answeres! Finally 6 months ago I saw a Pulmonologist P.A. who I confided in about my gohst aches and pains and She suggested that I get tested for Lupus. Lupus is hard to diagnose and doctors avoid the diagnosis at all costs. Sure enough there was evidence in my blood work and evidence of connective tissue disease. The diagnosis was actually a relief! I felt better knowing that everything I felt was not made up in my head. I'm actually at peace with it now. I'm now just taking one day at a time and pacing myself. My best advise to anyone who is in my same position is to keep looking for answers and don't give up on finding out what is wrong with yourself. Don't let Doctors make you feel as if it is all in your head, all insurance companies offer a second opinion, and you should take it. The key to dealing with a disease is to take one day at a time. In that day take one or two hours out of your day for "you time" do what ever takes to relax, this will help ease aches and pains associated with the condition. Stress can amplify any disease. Eat right and when you get enough energy take a walk, run, or play with your children. Don't over do it though! After a while you will accept your disease and know what your body's limitations are. Laughter is also important, don't dwell on every day pain, look past it and continue treatment with your Doctor. Over time you will be able to manage yourself and lead a somewhat normal life. Every day is a new step for you and you should appreciate yourself and know that day after day you have the control not your body!
