We all have the right to conceive, so the right to be a parent comes with the territory. Children are born into this world without the ability to make choices, their lives are given to them as is. We were given the tools to create babies which gives you the right to use them, but before you decide to bring a new life into this world, be sure that you are ready to be the best parent you can be.
If pregnancy and birth rates weren't extremely high, it would be great to have a law to report pregnancies and have determined by a judge if you are fit to have a child. Since there would be lines at the courthouse 10 times longer than the DMV, that wouldn't be possible. Somehow, we must be able to ensure that these children are going to good homes.
Throughout the pregnancies, maybe hospital staff, or staff from the OBGYN's office can make random visits to the homes of the patients. Background checks can be done to find out the soon to be parents criminal history. These are things that are done if a security clearance is needed for a job, so why not do it for a child? It would be worth every penny. Not to say that people with a troubled past should not have children, anyone can be reformed, but we just need to have an idea of where these children are going before they leave the hospital.
It is impossible to weed out all of the bad parents, but it would be nice to know that children are safe in their homes. There has to be a way to lower the statistics of violence and abuse in children. When you adopt a child, there is a very long process, it has to be proven that you are fit to bring a child into your home. The same process is used if you want to adopt an animal. Unless a system is created to evaluate birth parents, things will never change. Unfortunately, the cycle will continue, drug users, abusers, molesters, and careless people will continue to have children.
When a woman conceives and gives birth, it is a beautiful thing, it's a gift from God. For those who can't have children, if you truly believe you would make a good parent, please adopt a child who may not have been given a good life at first. You can give them the gift of life and in return, they will give you the gift of parenthood.
Being a parent should be considered a privelege for deserving men and women, to all of the parents that are loving, caring, and truly trying to give your children the best lives possible, I commend you.
