Newburyport Massachusetts, is a beautiful small seaside city representing an exciting New England vacation spot. Located only fifteen minutes north of Boston and fifteen minutes south of Hampton Beach New Hampshire, Newburyport offers uncrowded beaches, fantastic walking tours, fishing excursions, whale watching tours, village shopping, and unbelievable places to eat and drink.
Settled in 1630, Newburyport has had nearly four hundred years to get it right. Known as a hidden jewel of a seaside city, where the mighty Merrimack River opens into the Atlantic Ocean, Newburyport's water views are amazing. The city is small, yet full of life all year around. Most of the homes and restaurants nestled in this tourist mecca, are full of history and are accessible by cobblestone sidewalks and roads. Proof of its Revolutionary War time history. Federalist mansions, colonial era homes and fantastic seafood restaurants are what you will enjoy in this city by the sea.
MICHAEL'S Harborside Restaurant and Bar One Tournament Wharf, Newburyport (978) 462-7785
Although Newburyport was a huge fishing mecca back in the 1700's, many fishing vessels and private yachts still end their day sailing by the Michael's Harborside. Watching the different ships and boats sail by, many from all around the world, while sipping a Frozen Margarita or enjoying an ice cold beer is a fantastic way to end your day and begin your evening.
Most tourist and locals enjoy waiting for their Lobster Wellington or Classic Baked Haddock dinners while sitting on Michael's famed outside deck. Originally opened in the early 70's as an Irish Pub, Michael's has come a long way, with a fantastic full menu, and their panoramic views. Housed in a former fishing wharf and warehouse, the newly refurbished Michael's offers fresh off the boat seafood cooked to perfection. Many of their dishes are award winning, yet not pocket draining. Michael's has been mentioned many times in Yankee Magazine and on Fox News for their scrumptious entrees. The Lobster Roll has been named the Best in the East many years in a row.
The outdoor deck, great tasting food, fun atmosphere for all age groups, along with reasonable prices make Michael's Harborside the best of the best when seeking seafood in Newburyport. No reservations accepted, as they seat first come, first served, so hurry. If you are lucky enough and have to wait a bit, enjoy the outside deck, you'll hardly notice the time. You WILL notice the view.
The Starboard Galley located at 55 Water St,
Another great choice for seafood the City of Newburyport has to offer. The Starboard's inside or outside dining and phenomenal menu choices make The Starboard Galley a local favorite. The Starboard is next door to the Custom House Maritime Museum detailing the rich history of Newburyport. Its location on the harbor guarantees the seafood you eat is as fresh as it gets. Most fish and lobsters are caught in the morning and served for lunch and dinner. The casual dining and affordable pricing have satisfied millions of hungry travelers.
Bob's Lobster 49 Plum Island Turnpike,
Bob's is the little place, you'll pass on the way to and from from the beaches of Plum Island. A place to eat fresh lobster in your swimming trunks while the kids eat ice cream. Bob's offers great seafood without the garnish. A place you will eat healthy portions for an outstanding cost. The Fried Clam Strips and Seafood Platters are a local favorite and are large enough to share, though you may not want to. Bob's is a great small place with a big menu.
Newburyport Massachusetts is not only a seaside community rich in history and culture, it is a city abundant with sights to see, and places to eat. Enjoy.
