Using blogs as PR tools

Competition is tight in today's economy. Due to that, companies need to take advantage of all the tools available in today's technology. One of the most effective tools today is the blog. This is where you show the public what kind of company you are running and how you are dedicated to taking care of your customers.

Create a blog around your business. Don't make it just another place to post your advertisement however. If you do that, you will miss the advantage of utilizing the blog as a PR tool. The point is to use your blog to offer your customers and potential customers something more than just advertising. Here's how you can use a blog as a PR tool to the fullest:

1. Set up your blog using one of the free services and attach it to your website. Begin, from the first day of putting it up, to collect names and email addresses of customers and those interested in your blog. You can attach a "Join" feature to your blog. This will be the beginning of your distribution list. Be sure to notify those who "Join" your blog each time you put up a new posting on your blog.

2. If you are a writer, begin writing your blog. If you are not a writer, find someone to write your blog for you. It's relatively inexpensive to hire someone to write your blog. Doing so will not only save you time, but it will ensure that your blog is well written and appealing to others.

3. Make a list of topics that will be of interest to your customers and potential customers. Make your blog friendly and entertaining so people will want more. The point of a blog is to capture an audience and to be able to create a loyal following. When you post a particularly interesting blog, they will naturally send it on to a friend or two.

4. Each blog entry should be approximately 400 words and should be composed of a beginning, middle and end. Effective blogs are well written and convey a message. Do not use your blog to just ramble on about your business or your likes and dislikes. Think of your blog entries as free give-aways to your customers. In order for them to want to come back, what you give them must be of value to them.

Keep the advertising of your product subtle on your blog. You are building a feeling about your business here. You are not selling your products. The rest of your website is dedicated to selling your products. On your blog, list your product in your bio area only. In the blogs be friendly, give your readers content they will enjoy and learn from and you'll find that your blog is the perfect PR tool for your business.
