The horror section of the bookstore is probably the section I usually don't give that much attention to whenever I'd go in to it. Mainly because I'm not really a fan of horror novels. I'd rather have myself feeling in love or inspired while reading or after reading the book rather than scaring myself in the process.
But after reading Twilight by Stephenie Meyer my fascination over vampires somehow started and next thing I knew I'm reading this book entitled The Vampire Lestat. I've heard of Anne Rice' good reputation and I'm already familiar with Lestat from the movie Queen of the Damned so I was actually more or less curios whether this Vampire Lestat de Lioncourt is also as fascinatiing as Edward Cullen. I've arrived to one conclusion: both are incomparable.
After reading the book, I get to realize that Anne Rice greatly deserves to be called as the Queen of horror novels. She's a genius. The details are so vivid. I like that particular instance where she had written the "rules" embodying the vampire world. The scenes are gripping, horrifying in a way and it actually made me sleep with the lights on. I like the way she develop her characters or the way she'd describe them. How one could be so angelic and demonic at the same time. I could almost picture out the scenes like that of a movie.
If there's only one thing that had disturbed me at first is Lestat's overpowering love towards his own sex. Like the way he look at Nicholas de Lenfent his bestfriend or like the thought of wanting to kiss Louis de Pointe de Lac, a vampire he had created that had greatly reminded him of Nicholas. Or his great admiration towards Armand and Marius the great elders. Later I just ascribed that certain characteristic to him being French. I mean, French people don't mind if their men would kiss each other right? But after reading the book, I did a little research and found out that Lestat really is portrayed as bisexual. So much for him being French.
Vampire Lestat is the second book of the Vampire Chronicles. This is the book after the Interview with the Vampire which is of course one of the most popular movies of all time taking in to account that the actors included Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. After reading this book, I became an Anne Rice fan automatically. And I think I'd be frequenting the horror section of the bookstore for her works. Vampire Lestat is definitely a highly recommended book to read.
