Midnight in the Garden of Ambivalence and Gray Areas
Confused and occasionally lost,
I wander the convoluted labyrinth of life,
Trying to resolve two opposed positions.
Logic wages war on belief,
Both sides wining battles here and there,
But both unable to vanquish the other.
The result is an aggravated argument in my head.
So how do you decide between sides?
Or how organize opponents
Into a perfectly aligned package?
Confusion and tears,
Exhaustion and sleepless nights -
These are the war taxes of existence
Paid to the Universe.
Yet the revenues are wasted
On an inevitably endless war.
And thus the cosmic deficit grows,
Feeding the flames that lick my heart
And clouding my vision with
The smoke of unknowability.
The fuzzy figures before my eyes
Have lost their clear, defined shape,
And my feet no longer wield confidence
In their intricate movements.
Instead, I grasp at unclear objects
Set in the low relief of a twilight world.
This is my fate -
To fight through
Midnight in the garden of ambivalence and gray areas.
