Obama has been accused of a tyrannical nature even now before he has entered office. Is Obama a tyrant, and is a tyrannical rule necessarily a bad change for the United States? Marylin Strathern discusses how tyrants use transparency as a means of hiding other truths. Transparency of certain policies allow other ones to be hidden behind the veil of the obvious. Arlene Saxonhouse however states how transparency to hide the unknown is a beneficial part of a tyrant's rule. The Greeks saw a tyrant as a departure from the societal norm and as a human who becomes godly in essence. A tyrant's secrecy and oppressive power becomes his tools of statecraft to change a nation radically. The Virginia Law Register discusses the tyrannical power a judge holds over his courts, and how his verdict usually goes without question. Yet this power, the committee states, is sometimes the only was to bring down injustice, even if a judge's claim is decided unjustly. David Barber is his article "The Nixon Brush With Tyranny" discusses the emotional attachment people have with their government, and the fatherly role of the president. A president may be unjust and unfair in his decisions, yet those actions are for the betterment of society, even if oppressiveness is an ingredient of that change. Henry Lynchfield further justifies the role of a tyrant by reviewing the idea of "a tyrant's plea for necessity". He states the idea of a tyrant justifying his actions by the need for his intervention.

A tyrant's rule is hated because they make changes based on their decisions and without the consent of the nation, yet the people are oblivious to the changes that occur from a tyrant's oppressive changes. For a brief period of harsh living, long term benefits can often be reaped. The true battle is over the charade of ethics. What limitations are put on change due to ethics? The reign of George W. Bush has been cast in a negative light because of his abuse of executive action. Obama has already planned over 200 executive actions to take once he is in office. People fear this because they do not want another president who acts without the voice of the people, yet can Obama's decisions
