Soccer player profiles: Carlos Tevez

Carlos Tevez has an old head on his young shoulder. He joined Manchester United in August 2007. At that time, he was just 23 years old. But he had a soccer C.V. already that would make most veterans green with envy.

Check this out: Tevez was captain of the prestigious Corinthians football team back in Brazil. He had won both the title in Brazil and the Copa Libertadores (equivalent to the UEFA Champions league) with Corinthians. He was also highest goal scorer in the 2004 Olympics games and had won the gold medal with Argentina in the same competition. Finally, he won the league's player of the year in Brazil with Corinthians.

After all this success in Brazil, including a brief spell in the world famous Boca Juniors, Carlos Tevez moved over to England. His first port of call was West Ham United. He spent he 2006/2007 soccer season with this team and again, he delivered the goods. Tevez scored seven goals in he last ten matches of the year and his goals helped West Ham avoid relegation.

By this time, he had cemented his position as one of the most lethal strikers in world soccer. He had also become a regular player in the Argentina national team. He then made the move to Manchester United which is where he plays soccer at the moment.

At United, Tevez got off to a dream start. He had a great first season and formed a formidable partnership with Wayne Rooney. With 19 goals to his name, Carlos Tevez played a crucial role in Manchester United's double success in both the premier league and the UEFA Champions league.

So far, Tevez has played 89 matches for Man. United and scored 31 goals. In the quarter final of this year's Carling cup, (2008/2009)Tevez scored four goals against Blackburn Rovers. He has also scored a number of vital goals for the national team of Argentina.

However, during the present premier league campaign (2009/2009) Tevez has not been as good as he was in his first year at Man. United. This is probably due to the arrival at Old Trafford of Dimitar Berbatov.

It is also possible that Tevez may be on his way out of old Trafford. This is because Man. United has not signed him on a permanent basis yet. There is some speculation to the effect that Man. United may let Tevez go and sign Karim Benazema from Lyon.

Whichever way it goes, Tevez is a truly world class soccer star and cannot be short of offers. He is treated like a god in both Brazil and his native Argentina. Tevez has indeed come a long way from his native Buenos Aires and, given his antecedents, he is simply a soccer legend in the making.
