Poetry: Power

by Marlene Bricker

Created on: April 23, 2009

Power? What does it even mean?

Coveted as though it is a trophy.

An Oscar of sorts designating the

Control over the others under your thumb.

Why is it good to try to make others look dumb

For your own personal gain?

Do you think the power to reign

Will ever make you more?

Keep on trying until one day you will look at the score

And realize

Before your eyes

You have won nothing worth keeping.

As you are weeping

Wiping your tears away

You wake on to a new day

Where you begin

To see how you win.

Connecting to humanity from inside

Your heart. You had died.

The power lied.

It was all an illusion.

Now you live. Out of confusion

Came the reality.

You see.

Loving humanity is the only way.

That is the only power that will eternally stay.
