Why you don't need to buy an expensive new computer

Thinking of purchasing a new computer? If so there are a few things you should consider. First thing to do is evaluate what you want to do with your computer. For example if you only use the computer for surfing on the net and sending the occasional e-mail you do not need to purchase a very powerful computer. The basic one that usually sells for less than $600 will be fine in this case.

On the other hand if downloading and running multiple applications at the same time sounds more like what you intend to do then I would recommend purchasing a computer with an Intel core 2 duo processor with a minimum of 2 gigs of ram. But if you can afford to spend a little more you should increase the ram to 4 gigs which will to speed up your computer even more. We all want faster boot up times and more speed! This system should cost you between $700 and $800 which is still reasonable.

If you are a gamer and intend to future proof your computer then I would suggest purchasing an Intel core 2 quad processor with a minimum of 4 gigs of ram. This way you will be able to do just about anything you want with your new computer. Plus if you plan on purchasing any new games or software your computer will be able to handle these also. OK so now we are looking at spending around the $1000 range give or take $100.

Most new computers will come preloaded with windows vista. Some will have the basic version and others will have vista premium. The main difference between the two is that the premium version includes windows media center which when coupled with a tuner will allow you to watch television on your computer. Another question you will be asking yourself is hard drive capacity. In most cases the hard drive that comes standard with your purchase should be sufficient for most users. If you are a gamer or into video editing you should consider upgrading the video and sound cards. Speaking of sound a speaker system with a sub woofer and two satellite speakers will produce a great listening experience.

Now we will take a look at the size of the monitor. Most new computer packages come with a fairly large monitor which is usually from 19 inches to 22 inches in size. This will be fine for most users. There is also the question of going with a wireless keyboard and mouse. If you don't like seeing the wires or if you have pets then it may be a wise investment. If lack of space is a huge factor in your case you can check out the all in one models. This a one piece unit aside from the keyboard and mouse that usually sells from $1300 and up.
