Layoffs: How to think positively

Don't loose perspective in the face of layoffs as you are not alone in this time of recession and layoffs. We are all in this together and hopefully we will all come out of it only stronger. God never closes one door to us before he opens another one. Perhaps a better job or opportunity is awaiting you down the road even if it means in another industry.

1. Refresh yourself by getting some rest

If you are laid off, you can always use some rest in today's highly stressful world. Understand that health is your biggest source of wealth an happiness. Maintain your health by taking regular walks in the nature. The last thing you need to do is to keep stressing out over your job loss as high amounts of negative stress and frustration can extract a toll on your health.

2. Turn your crisis into an opportunity.

Change the industry in which you are working. Turn to food industry that has the biggest perspective nowadays. People will always need food in order to eat and thus those industries are much safer. Start your own small private business. You never know until you try. Perhaps there are some hidden talents with you that are waiting for the right opportunity.

3. Start actively searching for a new job

Bear in mind that you are not going to die out of hunger if you don't immediately find a new job. Be persistent and work hard at it. Just get out there by being active and on the source of information and opportunities. Make it your goal to talk to twenty people in a day. It will improve your odds of finding a new job.

If it is meant to be, you'll find a new job eventually. If not you can always work from home. Thus, you will enjoy the privilege of being surrounded by your closest family all day long. You'll get to create your own schedule.

4. Start working from home

Another option if you are married and your partner is still employed is that you can work from home even if it means working for smaller pay. Plus if you are married there is an option that you babysit your children while your partner is at work. It is just a matter of weighing pros and cons, joint decision-making, and financial planning.

5. Know that you are not experiencing layoff alone

If you are forced to sit at home due to a layoff just think about how even worse your colleagues may be feeling wondering as to whether and when they will be next in the line. Psychological studies confirmed that those ones who are working today in high stress and uncertain environment are experiencing more stress than the ones who got laid off. It is true that stress and uncertainty accumulated over a longer period of time could be deadly for a person especially if he or she is in critical years in their life.

6. Join a support group

Having somebody to share your problem with you is already half a problem solved. Make sure that you do not get isolated and let others care for you and help you.
