Ever After is a fantastic spin on your typical Cinderella rags-to-riches story. The beautiful and talented Drew Berrymore is cast in the role of the leading lady, and does a very good job at it. It has everything you would want from this type of movie, from a amazing cast to a beautiful backdrop for the movie. The sets and cinematography were both amazing, and the costuming was perfect for the film.
Anjelica Huston is cast perfectly as the wicked stepmother, and does a perfectly hideous job at it. Where most fairy tale to movies fail in their sappiness and failure to hold our attention, this one soars. With the combination of wit, humor, and drama this movie is one you will want to watch again to see if you missed anything. With the addition of Leonardo Da Vinci, the film gains depth and gives us a view of a man we will never see.
This portrayal of a classic fairy tale is one of the best re-creations of late. If you want to watch a movie that is set in a previous time, but brings heart and beauty to our time, this one is it. There is nothing sappy to this movie, not a moment that leaves you wishing you had not chosen it. There are many beautiful heart-felt moments, but also many humorous moments.
To sum up, this is a movie that will not let you down. No matter what it is you want to take away from a movie, this one has it. It is a classic love story that would be perfectly acceptable to watch with the entire family. There is nothing about this movie that has to be hidden from eyes of any age. It is a movie that is wholesome enough for the entire family.
So grab your future princes' and princesses and a bowl of popcorn and get ready to laugh. The little ones will love this as much as you will. Ever After is a tale of transcending your roots, and becoming someone that was believed to be impossible all the while staying true to yourself. Drew's character never once waivered from her beliefs and still found a place in the hearts of everyone. The dream of every little girl is to one day be swept up by her Prince Charming, and this movie shows that but at the same time she keeps her strength. Getting herself out of terrible situations, and being resilient no matter what happens.
This movie would be an asset to any collection, and the detail alone is amazing. Take a beautiful backdrop, add amazing costumes, a fantastic cast, and you cannot lose. If you haven't seen this movie, you should.
