Album reviews: Let It Be...Naked, The Beatles

In 2006 Beatle fans finally got to listen to "The Beatles" "Let It Be" album has it was originally was meant to be released in 1970, with the release of the "Let It Be Naked Album." The new version of this album did not have the Phil Spector orchestrations on it.

In 1970 both John Lennon and George Harrison gave Phil Spector the tapes of the Let It Be sessions and was asked to make an album out of it.

Spector added his changes to four songs on the album, John's song "Across The Universe" Paul's, "Let It Be", and "The Long And Winding Road," and George's, "I Me Mine."

Paul McCartney did not like the changes that Phil Spector made to the album, mainly with his song, "The Long And Winding Road." McCartney stated that this was one of the reasons that he left "The Beatles."

So, almost forty years after "Let It Be" was released, "Let It Be Naked" was issued the way "The Beatles" had originally planned to issue the album back in 1970.

With the reissue, of the album the original track list was changed, and two songs that were on the 1970 version were notably absent. This songs being "Dig It", and "Maggie May."

The album opens up with Paul's "Get Back." This version of the song was better then the original roof top performance in the film, "Let It Be."

At the end of this version of "Get Back," you don't hear John saying, "I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and myself, and I hope we passed the audition."

"Get Back" was followed by Lennon's "Dig A Pony," in my opinion one of the worst songs that Lennon ever wrote for "The Beatles." I would have left this song off the album.

George didn't got enough credit for the songs that he wrote for the group. The next tune on the album, one of my favorites of his too, "For You Blue."

George was out-numbered in the group by Lennon and McCartney being the two main song writers in the band. Some of George's songs were better than some of the tunes written by either John or Paul.

For example on the "Abbey Road" album "Something" and "Here Comes The Sun", beats any song that Lennon or McCartney tune on that album.

The rest of the "Let It Be Naked" album "Two Of Us", a great McCartney song about himself and Linda. "I've Got A Feeling" a great collaboration between Lennon and McCartney.

I have always felt that John's half of this song was better than Paul's. Two more McCartney tracks, "The Long And Winding Road," and the title track "Let It Be."

These two songs are high on my list of favorite "Beatle" songs. I think that these two songs sum up "The Beatles" era. They just had to finally "Let It Be", and it was a "Long And Winding Road" for the greatest rock and roll band of all time.

And of course, one of my favorite John Lennon "Beatles" song, "Across The Universe." A great song full of hope, and peace for a troubled and weary world being torn apart by war, and demonstrations.

"The Beatles" did not change the world, but they gave hope for peace, love, and flower power.

My finial rating for this album a 10.
