One important reason for the failure of affiliate marketing for several individuals is that they do not actively promote a product. Selection of a product or joining an affiliate program is not enough. After joining an affiliate program, one needs to actively promote it through various means.

Many people are lured to the prospect of making money from affiliate marketing. They select a company and a product and do nothing after that. Affiliate products need to be actively promoted. Otherwise there will no commission cheques.

There are various methods through which one can promote affiliate products. Some of them are free while others demand advertising expenses. Article marketing, one's own blog and website, discussion in forums and suggestions, undertaking reviews are some of the free marketing techniques.

Google adwords is the most popular method of paid advertising and pay per click programs. With this, one can get instant results. It can be most effective but also expensive. It can go out of control if it is not implemented properly.

Commission Junction, ClickBank, ShareASale are some of the most prominent companies on the internet for affiliate marketing. They carry thousands of products which can be selected for this. One can join these companies free.

There is no guarantee with the success of affiliate marketing. This demands hard work, constant review of strategies and dealing with competition.
