Churches should do away with denominations because denominations started with man. Denominations are man made and controlled by man. Webster's New World Compact School and Office Dictionary says that denomination means a particular religious body. The word denominational describes denomination. Denominational, again according to Webster's New World Compact School and Office Dictionary means, of, or under the control of, a religious denomination. Christians should only be controlled by the Holy Spirit.
Reading about denominations will tell us who started each one. What is so funny, is that all Christian denominations uses the Bible for their foundation. Each one picked parts of the Bible and started a denomination. One Bible, one God, one Jesus, one Holy Spirit, one way, and one truth, and yet there are so many denominations. Denominations have their laws and rules to follow. Denomination keeps people in bondage. Jesus came and died to set us free from the law. He didn't do away with the law, He fulfilled the law. Each denomination came along and started their own set of rules and regulations for people to follow. Jesus set us free, but man want to keep us bound.
When I say man, I mean woman also, anyone in a leadership position. Power and authority can be a dangerous thing, if it is not used the way God meant it to be. So, instead of being taught what God says and living according to His word, we are taught the denomination's way and the word of God is not productive in our lives, because it doesn't have first priority. We are taught how to hold meetings, follow the Order of Service, and encouraged to attend meetings that will also teach us how to do things the way our denomination believes they should be done. We learn quick, and yet we never learn enough about salvation, to lead someone else to Christ. We have to invite them to our church to hear it from the pastor.
When you are more focused on what your denomination believes, you spend little time in the word of God. Jesus is the only way to the Father. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast." Denomination keeps you working, until you believe that, because of your good church works you will make it into heaven. Mark 7:13a talks about, "Making the word of God none effect through your traditions." Denominations are full of traditions, man made traditions. We may not know what the Bible says about situations we are going through, but we know what our denomination believes.
The Church is the body of Jesus Christ. It began with Him and it will end with Him. Denominations are falling apart and they will fail, but the word of God will stand forever. Jesus is the head of the Church. He shed His blood and gave His life for His Body. He is the only one who should be controlling His Body. No man made denominations can stand against the Truth. Christians are Believers in Jesus Christ. We believe The Bible is God's word to us. The Holy Spirit is in us to teach us and help us live for God. Any denomination that exalts anyone but Jesus, should be done away with. Jesus is Lord, not our church or denominational leaders.
