How to plan your wedding at work without getting fired

You are getting married and every moment leading up to that special day seems to go by swifter than the next. Ah, if only every company were as compassionate enough to give you a full years vacation to plan your dream wedding. Does your boss not know how important this day is to you? Unfortunately, working is necessary in paying for this spectacular event and all that it entails. In any occasion, it is important to plan, be inconspicuous, organize and stay on "top of your game". When having to plan from the workplace, it may seem impossible to focus both on your wedding day and your daily workload...without getting the boot.

To prevent this from happening, it is best to start at home with a plain black binder to plan your thoughts and notes. Black is usually a business color, and will not be mistaken for a pretty wedding planner that so many wedding shops love to sell to eager brides. In this binder, you will keep the lists of contacts that you need to call, different price quotes and any idea that pops in your head that you would like to jot down.

Use the Internet as often as you like, but to keep the boss in the dark on your planning, copy and paste the Internet article into a Word document. You will be able to read all the text, and not have an Internet browser open on your desktop! Searching the Internet will have your boss on your tail, but also catty coworkers will see this and be a "little birdie" to not only your boss, but to other tweeting coworkers. It is important to read thoroughly through the wedding planning stage, and being afraid of having an Internet article open will prevent you from getting all the necessary details.

In your binder, make sure to include the top vendors that you would like to call back and when their office hours end. It is important to organize your "call backs" so that fast breaks can be used wisely. Make a list of vendors to call, and vendors that you can call while you are at home. Set up appointments with the vendors so that you can sit down and thoroughly go over all information. It will be hard to follow up with vendors, but stay on top of your game and don't let the good ones go! Most vendors will be able to work with your work schedule. If you are visiting places such as a wedding cake business or a florist shop, and do not have much time to examine the product to your liking, take pictures of what interests you and place these in your binder. It's easy to eat your lunch in the break room while skimming through pictures.

The most important thing to remember when trying to keep your job while planning your wedding, is do not talk at work about how stressful the planning of the wedding is! This could lead to your boss losing trust in your work, and although it displays your commitment to your special day and for your husband-to-be, it may question your commitment to your job. Keep it cool while at work, so that your coworkers and boss will not consider you any less reliable or promotable as the next gal.

Planning a wedding at work sure is a hard juggling act. With great planning, being inconspicuous, organizing, and staying on "top of your game" not only are you going to have the wedding your little heart has always desired, but you might end up showing the boss how strong-minded and responsible you are and land his job one day!
